YHH. ROCKS YOUTH TALK PROGRAM

YHH.ROCKS YOUTH TALK PROGRAMS

“When You Talk, We Listen”

The “YHH.ROCKS Youth Talk” Program believes that every youth requires four things to succeed in life:
“Love Respect Belief Hope”

About Our First Program

We address 3 major problems facing our youth today:

1) Their Health, Identity and Image

5 common situations and suggested solutions:

Situation 1

Addictions – Alcohol, Pornography, Smoking, and drugs are major problems because young people want to experiment, they want to try new things. But when they fall into addition, they find it difficult to return to the way they used to be.

Suggested Solution

A) try to set a date (with someone you trust) to stop your addiction and stick to it. B) Change your environment and friends who do not support you. C) Create a support group. D) Keep records of past and present attempts to quit.

Situation 2

Misunderstanding and Stress – Youth may feel that no one understands them. If parents and others make a youth feel neglected, this will cause a youth to stray.

Suggested Solution

A) Really listen when a youth is speaking. B) Avoid angry or impatient body language. C) Never use sarcasm or criticism. D) Don’t assume or mind read.

Situation 3

Bullying and Crime – Some youth will become someone who becomes a bully if they have been bullied or mistreated by an adult. Some youth may drop out of school to support their family or because they start hanging with the wrong crowd. Some youth even get violent and rebel against society.

Suggested Solution

A) The three “R’s” to bullying prevention Recognize, Respond, and Report.

B) Let your youth know they can come to you and ask for help and support.

C) Try to get your youth interested in the right sports, clubs, or youth groups.

Situation 4

Social Media and Technology – Youth of today are addicted to Social Media. They prefer to have friends on Facebook, Instagram etc. to in person relationships. They follow the crowd instead of being an individual who picks and chooses who they run with.

Suggested Solutions – A) Replace device use with other activities B) Make a list of things that must be done before device time. C) Explain that they don’t need the latest Tech to be accepted. D) An adult should always be an example!

Situation 5

Unhealthy Food Habits – All youth love to eat stuff like, chips, fast foods, pizza’s etc. and this can pose a serious threat to their health. This habit can also cause many image problems.

Suggested Solutions – A) Discuss the benefits of nutrition. B) Try to limit buying processed foods. C) Control portion sizes. D) Drink lots of water. E) Limit sweets and high fat foods.

2) Their Dreams, Goals and their Future

Encourage all youth to define what they are wanting to do and how they will know when they have accomplished and achieved their goals. Help them assess whether their goal is achievable or what obstacles they might face that can be overcome or may not be overcome. Encourage them to prioritize their actions to achieve their goals.

3) How you can help our youth find and return Love, Respect and Hope

Stay calm and don’t overreact when your child is being disrespectful. Just identify the cause for disrespect and focus on teaching problem-solving alternatives. Model how to be respectful by respecting your children first. Try to use kind and firm discipline to teach, not punish.
